How Much Does a New AC Cost in Miami? 2026 Price Guide

Replacing an air conditioner is one of the biggest home expenses in South Florida. These are the planning ranges we use in Miami-Dade, and the factors that move the final price up or down.

Updated:

Planning ranges for central systems

  • 2 to 2.5 tons (smaller homes and condos): $6,500 – $9,000
  • 3 to 3.5 tons (typical 3-bedroom home): $7,200 – $10,800
  • 4 to 5 tons (larger homes): $8,500 – $14,500
  • Higher efficiency or variable speed: add $1,800 – $6,500

Mini-split systems

  • 1 indoor zone: $2,500 – $4,500
  • 2 to 4 zones: $4,500 – $14,500
  • Condos, long line sets, or difficult access add to the cost

What changes the price

  • System size, which should come from a load calculation, not from the old unit's label
  • Efficiency level (SEER2) and whether the system is single-stage or variable speed
  • Ductwork condition: leaky or undersized ducts may need repair for the new system to work well
  • Permits, electrical upgrades, and access in condos or tight closets

Repair or replace?

If the system is under about 10 years old and the repair is modest, repairing usually makes sense. If it is 12 to 15 years or older, uses R-22 refrigerant, or needs a compressor, replacement is often the better long-term value. We show you both options with written prices so you can compare.
